15/04/2007 League: Crusaders 3 Rubery 2
My final day in charge of this team saw our lads put on a fine footballing performance against the Champions. Our quality reduced the opposition to the long ball time and time again as we patiently built up moves from the back. Although playing the pretty football, we went 2-0 down after two long punts were finished well by the impressive Crusaders striker. Just on half-time we deservedly reduced the arrears when Sam hit home from close range. HT 1-2
Second half turned into a superb battle as both teams gave all. We equalised when Adam hit a bullet from 25 yards which left the Keeper no chance as it went into the top corner. Now we pressed for the winner and with time running out Cru got the winner after a goalmouth scramble. This was a great team performance which was lead by Man-of-the Match Ben Smith but each lad played their heart out and certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side. Well done to all of you and thanks for making me proud right to the end of the season!!!!
08/04/2007 League: Knowle 2 Rubery 1
Rubery turned in a sub-standard performance in our penultimate game against high flying Knowle. The opposition gave us a lesson in commitment to each other and work ethic with a superb team display which was full of character. Unfortunately we lacked imagination and passion and paid the price. Man-of-the-Match Ben Smith shone brighter than anyone with a brilliant individual display. Abs ran his heart out also but too many lads took it as a Sunday stroll in the sun. Louis hit the goal that brought us back into the game and only two brilliant saves to tip both attempts on to the bar stopped us from getting a result. But this was Knowles day as they gained a fully deserved victory with a very clever footballing performance.
01/04/2007
This game was awarded to us due to Bromsgrove being unable to field a side. 3 points added to our record.
25/03/2007 League: Rubery 0 Crusaders 1
Rubery entertained the League Champions at Bay Tree and although the team being decimated through injury with Azza now having confirmed out for the rest of the season with ligament damage, Jac missing and Sam having to ask his Dad to do a return trip for his kit to make up the 11, this turned out to be the most committed performance of the season as every single lad battled for each other.
With half of the back four missing, the enforced changes saw the best back four display of the year as Reg and Ben shone alongside the superb Abs and Tom. The Midfield ran the show with all of the grafters taking control of the game from the first whistle. Callum showing his true class, Dave and Louis battling for every ball and Nick and Smurf always causing problems. Wayne coped with all in his usual cool and calm way and Sam was superb up front even though he should not have been on the pitch due to his longstanding injury. This performance proved a shock to Crusaders as we took the game to the champions and played all the football throughout the fixture. Only one mix up in the whole game flattered and gave 'Cru' victory as Wayne and Ben chased the same ball and the clearance hit Ben to break free to be rolled into an open goal. HT 0-1
Second half continued in the same vane as Rubery played most of the quality football. We tried to prise open and make our pressure pay off but the day was summed up when Nick rocketed a shot just over the bar with time running out. Crusaders played their part in this fine advert for U16 football and ran out fortunate winners, but to our lads credit, each lad showed the importance of having a strong squad as the only lads fit enough to wear boots proved more than a match for the best in this league.
After the shambles of last week, these brave 11 heroes proved that they do have the commitment and ability to reach new heights with the help and backing of each other. Every single lad were a credit to all that witnessed their performance against all the odds. This was a day to make any management team proud and both Trevor and I feel exactly that way. To the lads missing, even though not playing your support would have been nice and thanks to Adam & Azza for their backing for the lads.
18/03/2007 League: Rubery 2 Redditch 4
& Redditch 4 Rubery 1
The injury jinx hit the squad to such a degree that only 4 fit players took to the field in an untimely double header. Although we have been destroyed this season through injury, some lads just went for a stroll in the park and accepted we were going to lose before the start. Others showed great character in an uphill battle, but were badly let down by the lads with a very strange sense of humour and the worst attitude I've seen in 30 years in the game. Goals from Sam, Smurf and Nick gave a little light relief to a very painful afternoon. Now we wait to see if we have enough lads to go into battle against the champions this weekend.
11/03/2007 League: Rubery 0 Solihull Juniors 1
The injury jinx continues to destroy the lads season and even though our brave bunch dominated most of this match, we could not finish the job. With Adam still awaiting his hospital repairs, Nick's hernia giving him major problems and Abs damaging his hamstring in training, you would have thought it would have been enough to suffer but oh no, we had Azza carried off after a huge collision and Sam finally having to give in to his injuries. In the first half we never gave the opposition a chance at all as Wayne became a supporter from the goal-line. Only the Solihull keeper kept us at bay with three saves, one top class! All the football was being played by us as we battered the defence time and time again. HT 0-0
Second half saw Solihull step up but we coped superbly and Wayne only had one save in the game to make. He could do nothing with the winner as we were caught sleeping and a shot from 20 yards went in off the post against the run of play. As we went 3 at the back and finally 4 up front to salvage the game, Solihull hit us on the break but Ben & Jac coped brilliantly. So we were unlucky not to win let alone get a point but that's football eh! Lack of clear cut chances and decisive runs led to our downfall but it was a superb performance against all the odds so well done lads! Ben was superb in defence but Man-of-the-Match went to Smurf who gave everything he had with a personal display of total commitment.
18/02/2007 League: Rubery 0 Bromsgrove Town 0
Rubery continued their 2007 good record with a draw in a game that we totally dominated from first to last. Wayne never had a shot to face let alone save as we pummelled the opposition defence all to no avail. Only terrible finishing and a fantastic shot stopping performance by the visiting keeper kept the game goalless.
We tore at the opposition in the first half and Smurf could have had a hat-trick with only the keeper to beat each time, all this after his fine chip was tipped on to the bar earlier. A fine corner from Nick saw Abs rise and power a bullit header just wide as we camped in the Bromsgrove half. Unfortunately lack of imagination kept clear cut chances to a minimum as the away defence worked hard to close us down. HT 0-0
Second half saw shots from Jac, Tom and Josh go wide as we tried to break the well organised Town defence and midfield. The work rate from the visitors was there for all to see as they frustrated us out of the game. This was a game that was up for grabs but the movement let us down badly, and when we did break down the brick wall facing us, the keeper was inspiring to keep everything we threw at him out. Well at least we are still unbeaten this year but now we await the visit of Crusaders this weekend so hopefully we will have more lads fit enough to be competitive. On a final note it was great to see Sunny come to watch the lads....Thanks Mate!
04/02/2007 League: Rubery 3 Coleshill Town 1
Rubery continued their 2007 good record with a fine win over Coleshill which was done by playing some superb football at times. Still carrying injuries and illness to six Players, we dominated the game from first to last. Time after time we put the opposition under pressure and only good keeping and bad luck kept the score down. After 10 minutes though we deservedly took the lead when a fine ball from the very impressive Azza saw Josh take down on his chest and volley home. With Dave returning to his best, with football of pure quality we continued to press and a cross from Louis hit the woodwork and chances to prod home failed as best as we tried. We extended our lead after 28 minutes when Josh hit his second with a cool finish. HT 2-0
Half-Time saw two changes for tactical and injury reasons and the game began lively with Coleshill coming back into it and fighting for every ball. Our defence stood strong until a fine run and stunning strike from 20 yards left Wayne no chance as we failed to close down quick enough. This still did not panic our lads and a superb ball from Nick saw Josh run through and chip the keeper only to see the ball just go over the bar. Another fine move saw a great cross headed home by Josh only to see an offside decision. Man of the match Josh claimed his hat-trick when coolly hitting home to cap a fine front running performance. Nick and Ben both missed golden chances to increase the score line but we finished the game with great composure. There were some really good displays as all the lads performed well but Abs worked very hard and kept his cool brilliantly when confronted, Azza was all action until injured, Ben was tireless as usual, Tom was totally composed in all he done and Wayne dealt with everything with ease. Well done lads for a very professional and entertaining display.....keep it going!!!!
28/01/2007 League: Rubery 3 Coldlands 1
What can I say about this team of brave lads! With just four players fully fit and the rest of the team giving their best under pain and discomfort, we dominated the game from start to finish. We went into this game knowing full well that this was a great day to play against us. Tom (foot) Azza (chest virus/nose bleeds), Abs (ankle), Adam (knee), Sam (groin) Dave (leg) and Nick who had his back muscle put back in three times and also having hernia problems, proved too heroic for the opposition. Right from the first whistle we took the game to Coldlands and after nine minutes a superb ball from Nick left Smurf open to chip the keeper and give us a well deserved lead. The lively Josh caused many problems with his movement and was unlucky with two cross shots which both inched wide. He got his just rewards on 15 minutes finishing superbly from a 50 yard pass from Jac to leave the keeper no chance slotting into the bottom corner. Coldlands only chance in the game came with a goal mouth mix up from a corner, only to see the ball end up in our net. This shook us back into action and a fine run from Josh saw him crash to the ground in the box and Nick calmly converted the spot kick sending the keeper the wrong way. H-T 3-1
Second half and we still dominated the game with Callum and Adam ruling the middle of the park. The pass of the game from Nick saw Louis miss with the goal at his mercy and a fine run from defence by Abs saw him force a save from the keeper. Our defence stopped everything that came our way with Abs, Square, Azza, Tom and Ben looking solid. The midfield ran and fought their hearts out and Josh, Sam and Louis looked lively up front. Wayne continued to make goalkeeping look so simple as he ruled his area superbly. 2007 has began well and now for Coleshill next weekend so rest up lads as we need you fit!! Joint Man-the-Match performances for Callum for his all action Captains display, and Nick for playing so well in total agony, setting up Smurfs strike and scoring from the spot and also for his vision.
21/01/2007 League: Rubery 2 Highgate 0
Well our lads went into this game with major changes as we had only 10 fit Players and on a bog of a pitch following the adult quarter-final. With Nafe, Tom, Sam injured, Square, Azza, Adam, Abs and Nick carrying knocks, this really was not the day to entertain third in the league Highgate unbeaten since mid-November. First half saw the pitch take its toll on quality football but our lads battled hard to take control. In a half with chances going begging both ends our battling lads took a well deserved lead when a strong run from Adam saw him net from close range. Our patched up back four kept a good line and the brilliant Wayne made the art of keeping look so easy in conditions that would frighten most lads wearing gloves. Unfortunately we lost Abs early on with a pulled thigh muscle but Ben took his place and looked as though he had played there for years. HT 1-0
Second half and we took the game by the neck and tore at Highgate. Good work down the right flank with Josh, Adam, Callum and Nick linking up well saw our lads force the pace. Highgate still broke quickly to keep our back four on their toes and Wayne kept us in the game with two point blank saves and Square, Ben, Azza and Tom took any pressure thrown at them. Yet again injury struck again when Azza went down with severe breathing difficulties and was taken off which meant more changes as Adam also went off too with knee injury. Louis took over a right back and a strong run took him to the bye-line to cross superbly for the injured sub Sam to head home before the keeper could move. A brilliant 5-man move saw Sam net again only to be judged just offside which was really unlucky as this piece of football was a joy to be seen. This was a fully committed team performance which gave us a well deserved win. Callum and Adam ruled the midfield, Wayne was his usual superb best and Ben rose to the challenge by playing a Man-of-the-Match role even though in a position strange to him. Unfortunately we now have only 7 Players fit so next Sundays game v Coldlands could see us struggle to field a team, so all you lads try to rest up for a week. Well done to all of you for this win on a surface not really the best for our passing game.
14/01/2007 League: Rubery 2 Headless Cross 2
Six weeks with no game and only our 2nd league fixture at home for 8 months saw our lads off the pace in the first half of this bruising battle. Headless proved far too quick to the ball and to our players and made life difficult but our lads played just as much quality football in a tight half that saw us go 2-0 down which was no reflection of the balance of play. With injuries to Nafe, Tom having a neck problem we still battled bravely to stay in contention up to the break. H/T 0-2. Second half and we took the game to the Cross and totally dominated play with quick movement on the ball and supreme tackling off it. Eventually we reduced the arrears when Adam fired in a left footer from 20 yards leaving the keeper no chance. Now the fight was on and Cal went on a surging run to the bye line and saw his cross just missing two players. Nick then crossed with pace only to see Sammy miss-time his attempt and then Sam followed it up by just failing to connect with an open goal from inches. We deservedly equalised with a fine run from Nick down the right who superbly picked out Smurf who headed brilliantly into the roof of the net. Some really good displays were on show but MOM went to Adam who never gave up, fought for every ball and got back to his very best.
03/12/2006 League: Highgate 3 Rubery 2
This game was marred by the high winds where we suffered from 20-25mph against us first half only to see it drop to nothing when we were due to have the advantage. Very short report as yet again being linesman unless I gave you an in depth report on the defenders as I seen very little else. Goals from Nathan Eaton & Callum brought us back to 2-2 only to see a freak goal loop agonisingly over Wayne's head. As for other things that went on before, during and after the game I really can't be asked to give them a mention. After returning home to find Lyn ill again and on her own I have resigned as Manager immediately which I am sure will please some of you out there. One Player has put has transfer request due the some of the shown antics of last few weeks so we now await your new manager. Trevor has decided that he needs time to reflect on some things we have put up with of late and will inform me when he has made up his mind as to whether he will stay as Team Coach. Good luck to you all and I shall be at games only if Lyn is well enough to be there with me.
19/11/2006 League: Headless Cross 3 Rubery 2
This was a performance that lacked the work ethic which has been a major part of our past success in past seasons. The first half we simply handed the opposition the reigns and they willingly accepted the offer. Due to our inability to stem the tide of conceding goals this season, enforced changes saw no improvement as in the 8th minute the 'X' wide man cut in and beat three players to hit home at the near post. Wayne twisted his ankle in this attack but battled bravely on although the set back limited his movement yet still he made two good saves to keep us in the game. The home side continued to look the livelier side and were constantly first to the ball as our lads viewed from afar. Our lads looked a shadow of the teams passing performances of the previous games and only came to life when Nick picked up a ball from Callum, cut inside, changed pace and rocketed the ball past a helpless keeper into the top corner with a superb left-foot finish from 28 yards. Suddenly we saw some belief but on 34 minutes poor defending saw the attacker leave two players stranded by his pace to finish in the bottom corner despite Wayne getting a finger to his great shot. HT 1-2
Second half and still there was no urgency from our lads to up the tempo as they strolled on their merry way to defeat. In the 54th minute 'X' increased their lead after we yet again were caught napping. Changes were made to try to salvage something from a poor display and the three substitutes proved their worth injecting the pride and desire that was previously lacking. At last movement up front from the impressive Louis aided by Ben saw our lads totally dominate the last 15 minutes. Three great through balls from Nick were unlucky not to find our onrushing lads and a superb drilled cross from Nick saw three lads just miss out on connecting. Smurf was looking dangerous too and a three man move saw Louis finish superbly at the near post from an acute for his first ever Rubery goal. Now the 'X' were pinned in their own box as wave after wave of our attacks tore at the opposition. A great ball in the channel saw Ben break free of his first marker and just as he was about to shoot he was crashed to the ground from behind but astonishingly no penalty was awarded, which really was no shock going by earlier decisions throughout the game. Another break saw a fine cross find Josh totally clear with just the Keeper to beat but he headed just over. Headless held out for a vital win which damages our campaign hopes and estimations.
This was a team display that matched many of the sideline comments-negative! We lost Nathan Eaton once again 5 minutes into the second half as his recent injury collapsed again. Many Players continue to under achieve as over confidence runs rife amongst some lads who think they are better than they really are. A lack of self-belief from others continues to encourage what can only be described as mediocre displays. Our defending is now becoming an eyesore at times and the lack of urgency shown by some Players is astonishing. Unfortunately self-discipline failed at times during and after the game but that will be dealt with this weekend as we must stamp out the weaknesses shown by some. Well done to Wayne who battled through with his injured ankle for 70 minutes and kept us in the game as the protection he received at times was appalling. Callum, Azza and Ben showed battling qualities and the fine substitutes: Sam (playing left back for his first ever time), Smurf and the impressive Louis brought life to a below par team display. Man of the Match was Nick who time and time again found the key to unlock the opposition defence with some superb passes and capped a fine individual display with his fantastic strike.
12/11/2006 County Cup: Rubery 2 Cadburys 3 (AET)
Where do I start in attempting to report this game? We totally dominated this cup clash from the very first minute with a disciplined passing performance that showed the gap between the sides current league standings. Even after gifting the first goal to the opposition due to over confidence, our boys proceeded to cruise back into the game with an exhibition of flowing football. Nick saw his volley just miss a post, Nafe saw his effort saved, Abs saw a header flash wide, two efforts from Sam went close, and both Adam and Josh just missed out on the score sheet. All this before a superb ball from Jac saw Nafe rise to head brilliantly in the top corner to equalise. HT 1-1
The second half continued as our lads played all the football. Callum and Jac once again saw shots flash wide before Smurf saw his shot superbly saved by the impressive keeper who kept his side in the game on numerous occasions. Abs then missed an open goal by heading wide with the empty net gaping. We fully deserved the lead when Ben broke free to rocket into the net but after their Assistant Manager had already shook my hand to congratulate me and well into added time, the brave Cadbury lads broke free to unbelievably equalise. FT 2-2
Extra time carried on in the same vane as we tore at the defence. Twice the lively Ben went close before Cadbury snatched an unlikely winner. The Cadbury lads put on a brave performance and stuck to their guns against the classier opposition and we wish them all the luck as they progress to Round 3.
As for our display: Yes the passing and movement was there for all to see but the display of 'off the ball' running and looking for a decisive gap never crossed some players minds. The impressive midfield won everything and reduced the opposition to only the long ball, but once they had won the ball the lack of movement from others let them down time and time again. We played the game against a team from a lower division and it showed as 'our prima donnas' in the team thought they had a divine right to win this clash easy. Yet again some players seemed more interested in their own form and performance than to worry about the team and result as a whole. Our domination made some players feel it was only a matter of time before we scored and strolled round effortlessly.....yeah! that's the way to win matches!!!! Callum showed his pure class in his man-of-the-match display, Wayne although not having much at all to do looked at ease, Louis placed his claim for a regular place with a lively debut, Adam was superb at the back and Nick showed how easy football can be with an impressive showing. As for the many lads in this team who now already have Pro and semi-pro opportunities, this is a big wake up call! YOU GET OUT OF FOOTBALL WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT AND YOU DON'T WIN GAMES BY BEING SUPERIOR PLAYERS, TEAMS WIN GAMES NOT INDIVIDUALS!!....DON'T WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN.....MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!
05/11/2006 League: Solihull Juniors 1 Rubery 3
We
returned to League action with a trip to table-topping Solihull in a game vital to our season. From the first whistle to the last, Rubery dominated this match with precision passing and movement which sometimes mesmerised the opposition with its quality. Still suffering from injuries, the character of this performance was there for the crowd to see as we set siege to the opposition. In a first half full of enterprise Abs, Ben and Dave flashed shots wide but our pressure paid off when Nathan Eaton struck after 16 minutes with a brilliant strike to take the lead, and still we pressed our advantage home hard as we broke time and time again only to be denied by the Solihull keeper and sturdy defending. HT 1-0Second half and we exploded into action with Nick hitting a superb cross which was just missed by our incoming players, then shots reigned in from Ben, Jac, Azza and Nathan before a brilliant break saw Ben cut down wide to feed a superb ball to Nathan to score his second calmly on 45 minutes. Solihull now stepped up their game but with the Midfield and defence winning everything in sight there was no way through. Yet another fine move in the 59th minute led to Smurf being crashed down as he was about to score for an easy penalty decision. Nick let Nathan take the spot kick for a hat-trick comeback performance. He took the kick well only to see the fine keeper make a great save but Nathan was quick to fire in the rebound. We now were rolling the ball around the pitch in an exhibition display but as we took our feet off the pedal Solihull broke superbly in a quick four man move to score a neat goal. This shook our lads and yet again we raised our game to achieve a fine win comfortably.
This was an exciting all round team performance which oozed talent. Wayne was solid as a rock but had a quiet day as all round him gave great protection. Callum, Adam and Dave broke up any play that the opposition could attempt, Ben was his lively self as he continuously tormented the Solihull back line. Nathan Eaton completed his first full game of the season with a fantastic comeback display and Azza was outstanding in his Man-of-the-Match performance. Sam with a back injury missed out but Smurf played 25 minutes on his return from injury. Unfortunately Josh looks as though the injury jinx continues as he is currently to undergo hospital treatment with a possible fracture after only being on the field for 5 minutes. Well done lads for this wonderful display of pure football at its very best.
29/10/2006 Open Cup: Pheonix United 7 Rubery 5
Welcome to Under 16 football at its very best! From start to finish this was a superb advert for this age group where the Players were too busy to think of anything other than the game as it swung from end to end. Although still suffering badly from injuries our lads took the game to the Premiere opponents and made all the running early on. 3 minutes and Dave shot over, 4 minutes and Ben shot just wide and Adam went close too on 13 minutes followed by another Dave shot a minute later. Then we lost our concentration for ten minutes at the back with a combination of poor defending and bad luck as Pheonix hit 3 goals with the help of an own goal from Jac and two unlucky rebounds from superb saves from Wayne as he tipped fierce shots on to the bar only to watch as they followed up while our lads watched. We immediately switched Josh up front to get back in the game and he rose to the challenge and reduced the arrears a minute later with a 25 yard super strike. We now were rampant and another shot from Adam went just wide. 35 minutes and Josh struck again with a fine finish only to see a quick break extend Pheonix lead. Then back again we came as Callum finished coolly to end a great half of flowing football from both sides. HT 3-5
Second half and we were still confident and yet again took the game by the neck. Time and time again we forced them to defend as we surged forward, but their hard working defence and midfield stood strong under pressure. Adam shot just wide but we finally got our reward on 69 minutes when a 30 yard free kick from Jac hit the inside of the far post to score. With time running out we went three at the back to try to take the tie into extra time but as we committed everything forward two quick breaks sealed a fine win for Pheonix.
Even though Smurf (Injured) and Busky (Hols) were missing, Tom suffering from infected Tonsillitus, Nick (Knee & Thigh) 40 minutes and Nathan Eaton yet again playing only 30 minutes on his road to full recovery, this was a really good team performance as we made Pheonix pull out all the stops. We never dropped our heads and got on with the job and were very unlucky not to have forced extra time. Jac had one of them days that we all suffer from time to time but still he battled on well. Abs gave it all, Wayne was superb with some great saves, Dave looked good up front first half, Josh was always a handful with great finishing, Ben was his usual all action self and Man-of-the-Match Callum for his totally disciplined 'committed to the cause' midfield display. Keep going lads and hopefully we all will be fit again and we can start to get the results we deserve. Unfortunately as I was forced to run the line for the entire game, I was too far away to maybe have made vital changes which could have altered the result, who knows? Football won the day with no stupidity, no swearing and only excitement even though we lost, this game was a credit to all Players from both camps! Good luck to Pheonix and thanks for a fantastic game which was played in great spirit and an example for all that were there to see!!!
24/10/2006 Trial Game: Scunthorpe United 6 Rubery 1
What on earth have we done to deserve all this??? We had a 250 mile round trip for our lads trial game only to incur even more injuries on top of the lengthy list we already have. In the first 10 minutes we lost Nathan Eaton to a thigh strain which was quickly followed by Ben feeling really ill and then Aaron off with a groin problem. Tom also was forced to miss the start as he is suffering from a virus too. Even with the loss of major players we battled bravely against a team lying second in the North East Academy that had conceded only 5 goals in 9 matches this season and beaten once. The task was impossible with the quick movement by the opposition and we conceded 4 poor goals as we tried to settle again after the cruel substitutions.
Second half and we now had a lad from Nottingham in goal as Wayne rested for his return to Blues on Wednesday. He looked quite good but let one through his hands and was also lobbed easily as he was left out of position. We were now showing great character as we took the game to Scunny. We got our rewards when a fine ball from Jac saw Azza (now forced back on) rifle a 35 yard angled shot passes the helpless keeper. Yet again injury hit as Smurf twisted an ankle and had to come off and Adam also off after being knocked out in a one-to-one with the keeper as he went to score, but at least once we had regrouped we gave the Scunthorpe lads a battle. Abs, Jac and the outstanding Reg looked the pic on a day that could cost us severely over the next few weeks if our brave lads cannot come through their injuries. On a day we were all looking forward , the return journey left us with just 7 fit players for this weekend....ouch!!!! ROLL ON MAY 2007!!
22/10/06 League Cup: Holy Souls 7 Rubery 0
Well the injury nightmares continue to hit the team as a patched up squad took on worthy Premiership leaders and current cup holders in monsoon conditions. In a tight and very competitive first half where there was little to split the teams, our lads done us proud with a great performance but we finally conceded a goal on 38 minutes when a great through ball saw Abs slip on the terrible surface to leave the striker to slide home even though Wayne managed to get his fingertips to the shot. Up to this time we had matched the illustrious opposition in nearly every department even though Callum struggled bravely with his West Brom inflicted injury and Nick on the sidelines after a training injury put him out. On a plus side Adam completed his first full game for 7 months after his broken ankle and Nafe made a really encouraging return for 60 minutes after his serious head clash on the opening day.
H/T Holy Souls 1 Rubery 0
With half-time and injury enforced player and formation changes, the opposition's obvious class took its toll and although the score-line was extremely flattering they dominated play and at times ran us ragged with their quick movement and pace for a comfortable victory. They added a further six goals with a mixture of superb play and some help from the now dangerous conditions. Even then we never gave up and Nick only on for 10 minutes before his knee displaced again, shot only to see the ball unluckily rebound of a defenders legs and an inch wide. Individually there were some good performances with Abs & Jac yet again looking strong, Azza's totally awesome first half display, Ben although a year younger showed his class as he sometimes tore at the 'Souls' defence in a Man-of-the-Match display, Reg always looked lively, Dave and Adam worked so hard and Wayne was yet again superb with some great stops and at times brilliant handling in the worst conditions a Keeper could face. Hopefully we now can get all the lads fit enough to play as they have their trials at Scunthorpe United this week.
15/10/06 League: Coleshill Town 4 Rubery 2
08/10/06 League: Rubery 1 Knowle 1
This was a fantastic battle between two totally committed teams. Knowle joint-second in the league table took the game to our lads in the early stages but then we took over and created all the chances in the first half. We went close on several occasions, 7 minutes and Dave blasted over from a Nick cross. 10minutes and a great turn saw Dave yet again blast over, another minute gone and this time Jac crashed over. We pressed and Dave yet again shot just wide followed quickly by a Callum snapshot just going wide. HT 0-0
Second half and Knowle went to battle and pushed us on the backfoot, but Jac and Abs reigned supreme. The contest was now beginning to boil with late tackles taking toll from both sides. Knowle broke free down the left and a cross was flicked on for the wide man to blast into the roof of the net from close range. Rubery then fought back with Ben running the opposition ragged as the Knowle defence stood strong. With tempers running high Dave got himself too involved and he and the Knowle defender got their marching orders for striking out at each other which spoilt a great hard fought game. With time running out we eventually got our reward with the final action of the game when Busky bustled his way through to see Sam flick on to the bar and into the net. 1-1
This was a tough encounter but ended in the right result. Yet again without Nathan Eaton and Azza only coming back at half-time, both through injury, we showed great character and battling qualities to gain a point. The opening games of the season have been against probably the divisions toughest opponents but still we stay unbeaten. Now we must step up and begin to take the 3 points on offer to get in the race for the championship. Wayne was solid although having little to do, Jac and Abs supreme in defence, Ben and Man-of-the-Match Callum were tireless in the middle and Josh & Nick showed how well they link up. Good luck to the lads at clubs this week and stay away from injury...PLEASE!!
01/10/06 League: Coldlands Colts 2 Rubery 2
Rubery visited the league leaders in a tight clash played in appalling conditions. Once again carrying injuries with both Azza and Nafe watching from the touchline, we fought for every ball throughout the game. In the 4th minute Dave Clarke hit an unstoppable shot to gain a Rubery lead. Our closing down saw us shut out the Coldlands lads, but when they did get free they played some delightful football. Ben went on a 25 yard run beating three players to force a save but our pressure finally paid off when Dave netted his second on 31 minutes with a cool finish. HT 2-0
Second half began frantically when a quick break lead to a fantastic strike in the top right hand corner giving Wayne no chance to make it 2-1 on 41 minutes. Great wide play from Coldlands caused problems for 20 minutes but just as we had looked like the storm in more ways than one had been ridden, a cross shot saw Wayne dive full-length to get his fingertips too and roll to Josh to calmly clear. Unbelievably just as he was to boot it away the ball stopped dead in a pool of water right in front of the onrushing striker to prod home and make the scores level. Rubery now stepped up a gear and took the game back to the opposition. Ben yet again shooting over and then wide, Nick broke free to calmly chip the keeper only to see a flag for offside against another of our players, and a corner was met by Jac to force a superb reflex save from the keeper as he parried the ball straight to Sam to head home. This time with the ball a good yard over the line and cleared by a defender, it was judged not to be over by a linesman when the rest of the ground saw it clearly had crossed the line. Unfortunately once again the game was marred by a head collision, this time to Abs who had to come off after being knocked out and suffering mild concussion.
Managers view: On a day which was not for football at all, this game had it all. Coldlands played the better football, but our lads created more chances and out-battled the league leaders. MOM awarded to Dave Clarke not just for his goals but for his tireless display, Wayne was totally in control and Ben and Abs were superb. This was an average team display where we should have left with all three points, but we need to step up on this display as we take on the other table toppers Knowle next weekend.
24/09/06 League Cup: Rubery 2 CCC's 1
Well we finally finished a game after last weeks terrible ending and what a way to start our campaign this season. Premiership CCC's were the visitors with their previous 100% record and third place in the top flight. Our lads from the first whistle showed no fear as we took the game to our illustrious opponents. Although we were suffering from injuries with Nathan Eaton sidelined, Sam just coming off his year long battle and Adam only playing 2 hours in past 3 months, we totally dominated the first half with our new high tempo play. With only 4 minutes gone a wicked cross from Nick just missed connection from the onrushing attack. A minute later stand in striker Josh shot just over the bar and another cross from Nick found Abs's head to lay off to Josh again only for him to strike over. On 15 minutes Josh ran through to beat the keeper only to see his strike inches from a post. Time after time again we broke through and eventually got our reward on 35 minutes when a superb long ball from Azza found a Josh run between the defender and keeper. He coolly chipped the ball over the keepers head and rolled into the empty net. We deservedly increased our lead on 38 minutes when a great three-man move ended in a lay off on 20 yard line for Tom to rocket into the net. H-T 2-0.
The premier outfit came out all guns blazing and put us under severe pressure, but the defence stayed strong until the 50th minute when the ball was headed clear only for another 20yard strike to find its way through the packed area and leave the unsighted Wayne no chance. Now the game was getting serious with late challenges and niggles and with four bookings (Ben for us) , but Rubery stood firm with Abs brilliant on his home debut alongside the other defenders. More problems as we were forced to make three substitutions after 50 minutes due to illness and injury. Josh was now feeling unwell, Callum ankle and Azza dead leg were all replaced but Busky, Adam and Sam who all performed well. The CCC's onslaught was now being held at bay as we came back strongly to seal this hugely impressive win and to march into round two. Man-of-the-Match was Dave Abiyoe for an outstanding debut performance!
Managers View: Superb first half football display that showed just how good we can be. Considering the injury problems this was a performance full of character and skill. Wayne dominated his area and only had one save to make. Abs was stunning, Jac, Azza and Tom defended well, Ben and Dave worked hard and Nick (first half especially) and Smurf were always a problem. Josh made a brilliant striking debut and fully deserved his great goal. Well done lads.....now for Coldlands next Sunday!
League 17/09/06: BROMSGROVE
1 RUBERY 1MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO SERIOUS HEAD INJURY, TO BE REPLAYED!
Rubery took the step up to Division One in their stride with a superb performance. After dominating the first half where the keeper kept us at bay, we then took the lead a minute after the break when a great flick on from Nick let in Nathan to brilliantly lob the keeper for a well deserved lead. Unfortunately three minutes later a speculative cross hit Jac's head and looped over Wayne, even though he managed to get his fingertips to it only for it unluckily to hit the net. Unfortunately after 7 minutes of the second half the game was abandoned after Nathan Eaton suffered a terrible injury to his temple in a mid air collision which took the emergency services 45 minutes to arrive and a further 20 minutes to take him to hospital. This was a bright start to the season that ended in an awful way but I was proud of you all for the way everyone reacted in a difficult situation. Man-of-the-Match was Josh Fergusson for a top display!
Friendly: Rubery U16
15 Rubery U15 0Our lads played superbly in this pre-season friendly with a fantastic display of attacking football to the delight of the huge support. This 15-0 victory saw some breathtaking football at times and some superb individual performances. Sam returned from a season long injury to score four first half goals. Reg scored a second half hat-trick alongside another three from the impressive Nathan Eaton after a fine spearhead display. Dave got a 20 yarder to hit the net, Callum found the mark, Jac scored on his Captains debut and Nick capped a superb display with two on target after assisting with another five. New boy Dave Abioye made a great start to his Rubery career, Tom and Aaron were impressive with their quick breaks from defence. Ben was his normal all action self and Busky and Wayne came back from injury to do really well.
This was a superlative performance where all the pre-season hard work and new style of play was there for all to see. WELL DONE LADS!!!!!! Man-of-the-Match was Nick Wilson for a brilliant performance!

Bay Tree Farm and a very emotional day for the huge support and the Players. This turned out to be a battle royal between two totally committed sides trying to get promoted. The rollercoaster continues as we now have to wait until the final game of the season between Glades and Leafield on the 11th May to see if our goals have been enough to put us into Division One.
First half and Rubery seemed to have the edge with some great movement, and a fine 30 yard strike from Adam gave us a well deserved lead. Second half and Glades fought for their lives and deserved the equaliser after the poor Ref decided not to play advantage, but the resulting free kick was justly rewarded. We the took the lead again as Ben's explosive shot went in off the post after the keeper attempted an acrobatic save, Now Glades threw everything at our lads and it looked as though we had held them well until three minutes from time when a very dubious free kick against us resulted in the defence switching off to concede the equaliser. Both teams did not deserve to lose this battle and were a credit to this league and age group with their firm but fair attitude. Callum got man-of-the-match for a superb battling and disciplined display in the heart of midfield, while other performances to note were Aarons solid game, Josh's battling, Nathan Eaton's all action front running and Adam & Ben's 'give it all' performances.
So all in all it was not the end to the day we wanted for the staff, players and supporters but a result neither team could argue with. On a personal note it was sad to see Dave's season end in injury after just 10 minutes which caused a shake up in the team. Also not being able to get two of the lads on the pitch left me with great sadness for the boys involved, and for me as their Manager, as I can assure you nobody wanted that to happen.
Whatever the last result brings, these bunch have had a great season to get where we sit in the league so congratulations to you all. And finally we say farewell to Joe Watts and to one of the original lads Jamie Summers as they seek success elsewhere. Joe who had a great season last year has found it difficult to keep his place this term and 'Sunny' who scored 94 goals in a glittering Rubery career to play a priceless part in this team success story. Both will be sadly missed but we have to respect their decision and wish them all the very best for the future.

WOW!!!!!! How do I start this report ? Playing away against a team that had only lost once all season and also this years cup finalists, this was the day when this fine team came of age, and gave me and the vast band of fanatical supporters the best ever performance since I took charge 4 years ago.
Straight from the first whistle Rubery took control and mesmerised their opponents with their pride, passion and commitment. Playing in the first half with only one up front, we were to witness a truly remarkable front man display from the tireless Nathan Eaton that tormented, threatened and dominated the back four on his own. Our work rate was far too much for Glades and the passing, communication and movement was a delight to see. Wave after wave of Rubery pressure failed to produce a goal mainly through the heroics of the Glades keeper who kept us at bay with three great interventions, but this half our lads reigned supreme. Even when Glades broke free, Square, Wayne and Ben were brick walls that could not be breached. HT 0-0
Second half and it was time to change the formation and go for the win. Dave went to partner Nathan up front and it paid off within three minutes. Smurf chased a lost cause and won the ball at our corner flag to race forward, quick movement and passing gave Dave the chance to race through the defence and rifle a left foot strike to the keepers bottom left corner. This left Glades with an awesome task and they made changes to stop the Rubery onslaught. Time and time again we broke through, and when Nathan got injured as e bravely headed between the keeper and defender we thought the game was over, only to see it brush the post. We still piled forward to clinch the win and on 60 minutes Nathan got his just reward as he broke left at pace to smash the ball past the onrushing keeper into the roof of the net. As Ben was forced to come off injured, we were forced to bring Dave back to the midfield after doing his front role job which helped lock up the game to get this fantastic victory.
Wayne totally dominated the area, Josh and Tom were cool, calm and collected in all they done, Ben was superb as he fought injury to produce a great individual display, and Man-of-the-Match Square who won absolutely every battle was outstanding. Adam, Callum, Nick, Dave and the brave Smurf magnificently ruled the midfield with an iron fist to support the impressive Nathan. Arron came on for Ben even though he was injured himself, and was his normal solid self.
Even though we were players missing through injuries and holiday, this was a top-class performance against a top-quality team. We now have to complete the job at Bay Tree on the 30th April as a win there would either give us the Championship or Promotion.
WELL DONE TO EACH & EVERY ONE OF YOU!! YOUV'E MADE AN OLD MAN VERY HAPPY,AND VERY PROUD TO BE YOUR MANAGER!!!.

On a difficult pitch at Bay Tree, our lads went to the top of the league with a workmanlike display against a superb Cadbury team full of fight. On the plus side we scored a few goals and kept a clean sheet, but this was a lacklustre showing against 10-man opposition. The opposition made us fight for every ball, even when going down to nine players after a defender broke his nose.
This was a comfortable win, but now the heat is on as we do battle for the Championship or Promotion over the final two games against Glades. Goals from Ben (72), Dave (39), Adam (27) and a fine Nathan Eaton (15,76 & 77) hat-trick who led the line superbly. We were able to rest some players but unfortunately picked up injuries to Joe (leg) early in the first half, Busky (thigh) and the Captain with 15 minutes left which spoilt things. On top of that one of our main opposition Crusaders, kept the pressure on when scoring twice in last five minutes to move into 2nd place with a 3-2 win over Hunters Moon.
Well lads, this is it, two games to prove you are better than this division! The strong will survive, the weak will fail.....which are we to be? As Manager I KNOW you are up to this challenge but do some of you? The final two games will prove who is up to the higher standard of football, Physically, Mentally and Technically, so any players that failed today in any one of those area have a week to sort themselves out and grab the chance of the success we have worked so hard for this season.

Rubery set out to avenge the earlier slip up at Shirley by demolishing the 10 man opposition.
In the pre-match talk I set a few targets and our boys rose to the challenge magnificently on a bog of a pitch. An all action start saw Sunny have a screamer saved well after 3 minutes and on 8 minutes Adam had another shot saved and Tom crashed a shot against the bar. 13 minutes proved to be unlucky for Shirley as Sunny scored the first. 19 minutes saw Nathan finish well before Sunny hit the post a minute later. On 36 minutes Adam hit a 30 yard strike, and Sunny completed his hat-trick with two in two minutes(36 & 37). HT 5-0
Second half and we upped the game and Dave got a 14 minute hat-trick (46, 48 & 60) with a Josh 20 yard strike sandwiched in after 52 minutes. He then completed his hat-trick after 64 & 75 Minutes. Nathan added another on 70 and Adam made his tally three in the 68th & 72nd minutes. Yes the brave opponents were down to 10 men but it was still a fine display of total attacking football. Man of the Match went to Josh for a good performance but to be honest I could have selected all eleven players, well done lads!!!

This weekend saw the team suffering more illnesses and injuries leaving us with just six fully fit players. We lost three players before kick off including our keepers but nevertheless ran out worthy winners against a team far better than their league position suggests.
We started brightly and took the game to our opponents and in the 9th minute Ben was very unlucky with a superbly directed header which was headed off the line. A minute later saw a great ball from Nick find Adam to get his first of the season. A minute later and the scores were level with a very good move and finish. We took the lead again after 16 minutes when Dave hit a powerful drive that the keeper found too hot to handle. The rest of the half was a tight contest with Rubery looking the stronger.
Second half and it took us just 3 minutes to extend our advantage when Sunny finished well. We continued to dominate the game and Smurf hit the bar on the hour. We had to wait until the 73rd minute to wrap the game up when Smurf beat three defenders to score coolly. A minute from time and Dave finished bravely to nick the ball past the keeper.
So a much needed win full of courage as the injuries and sickness pile up. Man-of-the-Match Adam Kerrigan led by example and Aaron played very well against some quality opposition. Callum worked tirelessly second half and a Special mention to Jac for taking the gloves for hopefully will be just this game. Rest up lads now as another battle next Sunday.
Injury report: Wayne (Back), Aaron (Hip), Josh (Fingers), Adam (Chipped Bone), Ben (Back), Nick and Sunny both with viruses, Nathan (Toe), Busky (Hamstring) and Sam out for season with Osggood.

Rubery from the first whistle looked a shade of the team that demolished Hunters Moon in the previous game. Although fielding nearly the same team we never settled to play the fast moving game that we excel at, mainly due to the hard work of the Hampton braves. The fact that we were once again hit by this flu bug did not help matters, but saying that the two lads that were in the poorest health battled bravely and better than some of the 'fit' players. The first half was close with both sides cancelling each other out but we managed to take the lead when Jamie Summers finished well in his comeback game after nearly two months through injury. HT 1-0
Second half saw the opposition raise the already high work-rate and deservedly levelled the scores after 50 mins. We seem to then have lost our way with some players dropping their heads. Then after 70 mins a free kick taken whilst half our defence were looking the wrong way, found its way through the defence for Wayne to bravely save but getting injured in the process. Whilst he lay on the ground for 10-15 seconds in agony Hampton knocked the ball about until a 20yard strike hit the net as the Referee ignored our injured keeper.
We didn't deserve to win this encounter but certainly deserved a share of the points and to concede while the keeper is lying injured was totally unjust. This could have damaged our championship ambitions no end but with only five games left we must leave these dismal displays behind to find the success we seek. Nathan Eaton led by example through illness and was awarded MOM for getting through the pain barrier. Nick was very sharp until the flu bug brought him to a standstill early in the second half. Ben and Adam were superb and Josh made run after run to be ignored by his team-mates.

Rubery set the tone for this game with an electrifying first half performance against our promotion rivals. Time and time again we laid siege to the Hunters goal only to see good keeping or the woodwork stop a march towards the top. We took the lead when Tom put a superb ball through for Nathan Eaton to finish well in the 3rd minute. 9 minutes and Dave was unlucky when his 20 yard shot crashed against the bar quickly followed a minute later by Ben crashing the bar again from an acute angle. 12 minutes gone and Dave went close again and the Josh headed just wide a couple of minutes later. The goalkeeper frustrated Josh again on 16 minutes then disaster struck when Omar broke free of Adams superb marking to crash home an unstoppable equaliser. Superb midfield displays from Nick and Callum won the battle of the middle, and Nick's great free kick saw Jac ghost in to score only for a linesman to give offside incorrectly, and we continued to press forward to the break without adding to the score line. HT 1-1
Second half began with Rubery exploding into action and taking over just as before. 45 minutes and Nathan Eaton coolly netted from a Clarke ball. Ben added another on 50 minutes and Dave calmly beat the keeper to make it 4-1 after 68 minutes. Ben then went on a fine run to finish brilliantly on 70 minutes. A quick break saw the Colts come back to 5-2 but Smurf completed the scoring on 76 minutes to seal a fantastic team performance against a team that have only lost twice all season. Far to difficult to single out a Player as all worked until they dropped on a treacherous pitch, so MOM went to the entire team. This is the form we must carry through to the end now if we are to get promotion for the third year running. The vast army of Supporters witnessed the game of the season and all our lads did them proud.....WELL DONE LADS!!!!! Glad we could keep Wayne fairly quiet after his BBC match of the Day debut!!!!!

Well I warned the lads this was going to be tough and so it proved to be against a revitalised Cadbury side playing under their original returning Manager again. In a first half of end to end football which saw both sides finding it difficult to play a flowing game due to both teams closing down each other very quickly, we took the lead when Callum crashed home a left foot drive from 25 yards in the 15th minute. This stirred Cadburys into action and Wayne kept us in the game single handed with four top class saves and blocks. HT 1-0
Second half and apart from the occasional break Rubery dominated by storming the opposition with quick movement and passing. On 54 minutes Jac picked up the ball and ran 70yards to hit a left footer high over the keeper to increase the lead. Then the hard working Nathan Eaton wrapped up the win coolly on 66 minutes. This was a workmanlike more than an impressive performance. Fine performances from Ben, Callum and Nick in the middle, fine front running from Nathan Eaton and Square was impressive at the back but the day belonged to Wayne gaining his first ever Rubery Man-of-the-Match award for a superb display. Losing Sunny early on with a nasty knock unsettled up front but Josh came on and done well and Busky returned from injury to make vital tackles when needed. It was a game where all the squad were given a good time on the pitch due to injury and this flu spreading through the team, and each & every one did a fine job. Well done lads!!

Welcome back to football in all the best ways!!! Our lads put up the football performance of the season against the top of the league. From the first to the last minute we totally outplayed, out battled and out thought the opposition in every department. With questions about the new formation and team selection coming to the fore, the starting eleven provided all the answers with a superb first half display. Although going behind after 13 minutes with Leafield's only attack, we still stayed composed, continued to play and took the game to them. Time & time again we laid siege to the goal. Nathan Eaton's exquisite pull down and shot in the box was very unlucky to be saved. Nick sent a through ball to Sunny who lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper to unluckily land on the roof of the net. Square headed wide from a corner and so the story goes on and on. At least Jamie Summers snatched the fully deserved equaliser after outpacing the defender to finish neatly past the keeper after 34 minutes. Half-time 1-1
Second half whistle and Rubery exploded into action to take the lead within a minute when Ben drove home low. Straight from the kick off and slack defending led to Leafield's equaliser. Still no panic and we totally dominated the entire affair only allowing the odd break from the home team. Changes for tactical purposes and still we bombarded the opposition. Tom hit a left foot strike that buzzed wide, Sammy nearly proved to be the hero with a deflected strike scraping the post and two clear cut penalty decisions for handball amazingly not given. This was a superb advert for Under 15 football with both sides giving their all but allowing sportsmanship to be the ultimate winner. We were so very unlucky not to come away with all the points in this one-sided affair, but the highlight was a fantastic TEAM performance from all. Aaron Humphreys proved yet again that his hard gained place is not up on offer with another man-of-the-match award. Wayne was a brick wall and Square was solid as usual after returning from his injury, Callum powered the middle of the park alongside the all action Ben, 'The Smurfs' battled for every ball stopping the opposition playing and the front two were back to their lively best on and off the ball. Not since the 4-0 cup win at Hampton have our lads produced the quality game we saw today and know they possess so Well done to you all!!!!

This was a game that on all known form should have been easy even though we were injury hit, but Shirley threw their past form in the bin and dominated the play for large portions of the half. Their defence kept Sunny & Nathan at bay with ease, Their midfield overpowered our lads with a fine work rate and the Shirley attack left our defence dead for movement and pace. In a first half that was full of poor performances, Nick and Smurf stood out with their commitment. Two lads cannot make a team and Shirley deserved and took a comfortable 2-0 advantage into the break.
Second half and after the shock was over our lads produced the power, pace and aggression that we are used to as we threw everything at Shirley. It took until the 67th minute before Jamie Summers struck an unstoppable 25yard free kick high into the net to reduce the arrears. Three minutes later (70mins) and the scores were levelled when Smurf followed up a rebound to equalise. We were still rampant and time and again we broke free but poor finishing, the keeper, goal-line clearances and bad luck let Shirley off the hook. Sunny saw the keeper get a hand to a cross shot and Smurf could have had three with only the keeper to beat but all failed to hit the target. The game finished a draw, which the Shirley lads fully deserved on first half display, but we also deserved for the second half demolition of the opposition. Only highlights to note performance wise were two superbly committed displays from Joint Men-of-the-Match, Nick Wilson with his best ever individual display, and Aaron Humphreys for a remarkable full team debut. Smurf for a great display of work and trickery, Adam who came on injured in the second half to bolster the defence and Wayne who looked calm and collected as others round him panicked so much so to near suicidal back passes that he dealt with brilliantly. Our main difference from before Xmas is that for some reason we now get a handful of players performing to a suitable level while others continue or take turns to have 'off days' which is not going to win us anything until we put it all back together again. I think it's now time to ring the changes so beware lads!!

Well a new year upon us and still we have an uncanny knack of throwing away points. In a strange start to a game when we should have been four up in the first ten minutes, we found ourselves 2-0 down. With a combination of saves from the keeper and goal line clearances that kept us at bay, Catshill struck twice in twelve minutes to grab the advantage. This stirred us to take control and Ben Smith smashed a 20 yarder high into the top corner from the tightest of angles to reduce the arrears after 19mins. 25mins and the keeper pulled off a great stop to his left. In the 31st minute we were rightly awarded a penalty which Nick despatched superbly. Then two minutes before half-time we deservedly took the lead when Nathan Eaton finished brilliantly, 3-2.
The break saw a different team take the field as we totally stopped playing. Within 8mins of the restart we were behind 3-4 through total lack of closing down. 52 mins and Nathan equalised, then we went to sleep again and Catshill were awarded a very dubious penalty. So the fight was on again as the opposition outplayed us, but bravery has never been a problem with this team and we battled hard in the face of some amazing happenings on the pitch. 72 minutes had gone when Ben burst up front to hit a fine left foot strike leaving the keeper helpless.
This game was badly affected and spoilt by the whistle and long conversations to players from the Referee. I have to say I am proud of each and every player for the way they conducted themselves in the face of adversity. Joint Man-of-the-Match winners were Adam & Ben but good a display from Wayne keeping us in the game at times and Callum for a solid defensive performance also deserve praise.
We must now raise our performances if we are to keep in touch with the promotion places, which I am sure we will after losing our way football wise over the past three games. Time to wake up you lads!!!

Injury hit Rubery lost their unbeaten league record with a very inconsistent display against 03. After starting brightly and with Sunny blazing over from three yards, we were shocked when going behind after sloppy defending gave away a goal after 10 minutes. In the 16th minute it was Smurfs turn to blast over, this time from 8 yards. The rest of the half was a non-event from both teams but we were looking very nervy.
Second half, and we pinned the opposition in their own half and never gave them a single chance as we time and time again battered at the Leafield defence. A fine cross saw the ill Dave Clarke head just wide and in the 68th minute a goal mouth scramble saw a fine goal line clearance. As the ball came out a speculative strike from Sunny bounced off the bar. The now rampant Rubery threw everything at them but all to no avail as Leafield held on grimly to secure the points.
OK, we were missing Dave and Bens midfield might today, but the attitude of some players left a lot to be desired. Players wandering totally out of position left huge gaps at times. Poor closing down, late tackles and poor discipline found some lads out at whether they are up to this level. Man-of-the-Match joint winners were Jamie Summers and Nick Wilson who worked tirelessly in their allotted positions while others disappeared out of sight from theirs. Roll on the new year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to league action this week as we travelled to the team that have headed the league up to last week.
We started brightly and took the game to the opposition, but a break on 5 minutes saw a 20 yard Hampton shot that Wayne tipped over superbly. We continued to dominate and deservedly took the lead on 12 minutes when a piercing through ball found Sunny who finished brilliantly with a chip high into the top corner. We extended our lead four minutes later when Sunny coolly chipped the keeper after a four man move split the defence apart to give him his second. We were cruising up to then and our lads thought this was easy so of course it happened as it has in the past. We lost shape with players pushing up to score themselves and all discipline went out the window. In the 24th minute Hampton scored with an unchallenged volley which seemed to spark them into action. On 33 minutes they broke away to level with a fine finish but the scorer was a good 5 yards offside as our defence stood and appealed in vein. At last we woke up again and on 38 minutes Sunny was so unlucky not to seal his third when hitting the inside of the post.
HT 2-2
The half started with both teams going for it. Ben Smith produced a superb 25 yarder to put us back in front in the 52nd minute. Hampton were not ready to take it lying down and tried their best to break us down. We did it ourselves again by letting them equalise with an unchallenged header to level matters in the 74th minute. This stoked our boys into real action and a minute later Sammy broke through to the keeper one-to-one but his chip was not high enough to beat him. Another minute and another chance as Sunny raced clear to chip the oncoming keeper only to see his attempt go unluckily just over the bar. We were now murdering the opposition and a corner saw that ball cleared to Jac who rocketed a volley against the bar. We were unlucky in the end not to seal an important win but Hampton did not deserve to lose after a brave fight back. Joint Man-of-the-Match winners were Jamie Summers for a committed display and superb finishing and Dave Clarke who worked his socks off and battled for every ball.

Our lads took on the might of Leafield in this Quarter final tie to the delight of a large crowd. Unfortunately it was my turn to make mistakes this week by treating this elite opposition with too much respect. Now we have had totally confirmed and without doubt, that we are ready to take on the best in this age group. We set out to play a holding game first half whilst we weighed up the formation and strengths of the opposition. What we were not expecting was to let in a ridiculous goal in the first minute after the defence watched as the ball was whipped in for the striker to slide home. We started to settle with some committed football, but Leafield's superior play saw them extend their advantage after 20 minutes. Rubery continued to battle to the half-time whistle to keep the score down. HT 0-2
As we had originally planned, we then made the aggressive attacking changes which totally changed the game. Rubery were now taking the game to the opposition, but the Leafield defence held firm against the now rampant Rubery. Against the run of play Leafield went 3-0 up but even then our lads never gave up. We now had the opposition pinned inside their half, and time and time again we pushed their defence to the limit with our aggression, pride and passion. We eventually gained our reward when Bens shot was superbly saved only to see the lively Nathan Eaton net easily from the rebound. Still we put pressure on the home side, but time ran out for us literally as the referee did not add the substantial injury time that was due to be added on (sorry Sam!!). This was a performance of two halves where Leafield gave us a lesson in the first 40 minutes but we certainly were the stronger team after the break. Displays to note were all over the park but a special mention must got to Wayne who although battling flu gave a solid performance. Dave Clarke was yet again superb in midfield, Adam gave his all (and his head) as usual, Nathan Eaton who never gave up the lone battle up front, and the performance of the season so far from Callum Carthy with his Man-of-the-Match display. Tactically I thought that the opposition would be far stronger with a supreme list of honours gained over the past five seasons, so I am delighted to be proved wrong again by our fine team of players. Well done to you all on a superb cup run that has seen us take on the might of the Premiership and come out with our heads held high.
YOU REALLY HAVE ARRIVED AS A TEAM THAT WE CAN ALL BE PROUD OF!!!!

I am writing this totally speechless after witnessing the most appalling display by this team for many a year. What was missing from this performance? Fight, Character, Pride, Passion, Discipline, Determination and Skill just to mention a few. This was a day to forget for many of us that were there for just some of them reasons. After 7 minutes we went behind with a freak goal that beat Wayne after hitting a frozen divot and bouncing past to find the net. This was our better half and with 20 minutes gone Adam forced the keeper into a fine save by tipping his left-foot shot over. We hit the by-line time and time again and as crosses hurtled in nobody could get on the end of them. Corners were wasted, free-kicks that have been so good this season failed miserably, and shots that were at a premium anyway all found to be sub-standard. Nathan Eaton produced a fine overhead effort on 27 minutes after another pull back by Sunny. This was a half when our normally solid centre midfield simply did not perform. HT 0-1
Second half and Northfield extended the lead with a fine goal after our players gave a fine shooting opportunity by not closing down. By the 54th minute and with a farce of a goal when Josh & Wayne went for the ball and stood and watched it go through the middle for the scorer to walk into the net, this game was over. Far too many negatives to list but some good performances to note even so. Man-of-the-Match Jac Sheridan stood out at the back, Callum played his two roles with pride, Smurf who came on second half to create many problems, Sunny for a superb workmanlike display and Nathan Eaton who ran the front line with a great attitude. Unfortunately the front two got no support from midfield at all in the entire match. To sum up.....this was the day when six players decided to produce their worst game of the season at the same time and we got exactly what we deserved.

Catshill 1
(Smith & Wilson)![]()
In a really tight local derby, both teams can be proud of a committed display on a treacherous surface. On a pitch which was nearly unplayable, both sides battled well to produce some quality football at times. Rubery started the better and after 10 minutes Nick Wilson was very unlucky after outpacing the defender to strike high to the top corner only to see the Catshill Keeper at full stretch tip on to the bar and over. Even then the luck was against us as the Ref gave a goal kick. We continued to press, and a fine run by Smurf saw him scythed down in the box for Nick Wilson to calmly convert the spot kick. Ben Smith added to the score-line when finishing from six yards to make it 2-0 in the 21st minute. We continued to out battle the brave Catshill team to take our lead into half time.
Rubery started brightly once more and Nathan Eaton shot just wide of the post after 43 minutes. A quick break saw Catshill reduce the arrears with a fine strike after 45 minutes. The rest of the half was a battle with both sides trying to score what would have been a vital next goal. The Rubery defence played well to keep the lively 'Hills' at bay, and Josh Fergusson cleared a shot off the line. A break saw Man-of-the Match Ben Smith denied after 67 minutes when his screaming volley was superbly touched over the bar to keep the score intact. Rubery just about deserved this win against a team that have dramatically strengthened over that past three weeks, but both teams deserve a medal for being able to play at all on that surface. Performances to note include Jac Sheridan, Tom Lawry, Wayne as competent as ever, Dave Clarke and the hard working forwards who took a battering physically at times. Although not pretty at times this victory completed our tenth straight win of the season and now we have two weeks off League duty with Cup matches including a Quarter-Final to follow, well done to all of you!!!!

Another superb all round team performance brought a victory to complete the double over our neighbours. In a very tight first half where both teams had their chances, Rubery kept their cool and played some delightful football at times. With luck a superb header from Jamie Summers after 25 minutes, and a great volley from Nathan Eaton which both fizzed over the bar could have given us a lead at the break. This was a very even half that saw quality all over the pitch from both coloured shirts. HT 0-0
After making a tactical change at the break, Rubery came out all guns blazing! Smurf went close after 42 minutes and in 43rd minute we broke the deadlock when Dave Clarke rose to head home a brilliant Eaton cross. We increased our lead when Smurf coolly slotted home eight minutes later (50). We continued to take the fight to Crusaders who played a major part in this entertaining game. Nathan Eaton made it a goal a game by netting after 70 minutes. Changes were made that rocked the boat as Crusaders kept battling to the end. Josh Fergusson made an unbelievable goal-line clearance after 77 minutes and Crusaders got a well earned consolation goal a minute later with a curling shot into the top corner giving Wayne no chance. Fine performances all through the team but a special mention to our front pairing for their tireless running, Dave, Square and Adam for total commitment to the cause, and finally to Man-of-the-Match Ben Smith who worked himself to a standstill for the team. The two victories over these opponents will show later on in the season by the results they achieve, so our lads have done brilliantly to take all six points from them. WELL DONE!!

Rubery marched into the Quarter-Finals against a team with a previously 100% record, no goals conceded and top of the league. Both teams suffering from players out for other commitments and injury's, played out an entertaining game in front of a great crowd. We set out as though we meant business with some great movement and interplay. A couple of chances went begging before a superb free-kick from Jamie Summers rattled the bar in the 14th minute. Rubery continued to take the game to the illustrious opponents and Sunny was really unlucky when spotting the keeper off the line he struck from 35 yards only to see his effort strike the bar and Nathan Eaton missing the rebound by an inch. We got our just rewards when firstly Ben (35) and Nathan Eaton (36) gave us a richly deserved half-time lead. 2-0
Second half continued as the first as our movement and pace troubled the league leaders. With Sunny & Eaton running the show up front and our defence rock solid we played all the football. Ben struck again to increase the lead after 54 minutes and only a fine display from the Hampton defence kept us at bay. With Jamie Hales deputising in goal for both our injured keepers and looking as though he had played in goal all his life, Tom superbly controlled at the back and Ben & Dave winning the Midfield battles, we never looked in trouble. Sunny was yet again fighting for every ball and Nick coming on this half on tear apart their left side with Sunny and Tom linking up with him for some tremendous moves. This strong left side aided Ben to complete a fine Hat-Trick performance by flashing in a late goal for this impressive win. Great display from all the lads but the difficult choice of MOM went to Tom Lawry who was coolness himself. Brilliant performance lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lyndon 3
(Brown, Summers & Eaton (3)![]()
Well we won even though this was by far the worst performance seen so far this season. Lyndon who came down from Division One last season put our lads under more pressure than we have had to face so far. In the 7th minute the visitors took the lead to shock Rubery. A minute later saw Nathan Eaton equalise with the help of a defender, 1-1. Still the visitors came at us and caused our defence problems and deservedly took the lead in the 28th minute when a mix up with Adam and Mark (making his full debut) colliding to leave the ball free for a tap in. We then came to life at last and a fine ball from Adam saw Smurf finish coolly. The half was marred by injury to Mark seeing him taken off with damaged fingers and knee.
Second half and we were 'at it'. Time after time we took on the opposition and only wasted chances kept the Colts in the game. We took the lead after 66 minutes when the superb Jamie Summers netted calmly after outpacing the defence. A minute later saw Nick put through a fine ball for Nathan Eaton to finish well. In the 74th minute a brilliant run from Sunny out wide saw him beat the defender and put in a top class cross for Nathan Eaton to complete his hat-trick. Josh deputising in goal produced a fine tip over but a few minute later saw Lyndon get a late consolation. This game was spoiled by injuries to both keepers and to make things worse Adam had to come off with a shin injury. We struggled after making the positional changes forced upon us and never really got to play our normal game. On the day we deserved the win but will have to improve dramatically before the next game. Jac had a great game at the back, Nathan's Brown & Eaton were impressive but Jamie Summers stole the show with by far his best performance of the season with his tireless work rate and commitment.

Crusaders 1
(Clarke & Eaton)![]()
The day started badly with me having to travel to Bay Tree to fetch pitch marking equipment at 8am, Mark pitches out and fill in about 40 mole holes. Eventually game-time arrived which is more than can be said for the Referee as we were let down yet again!! Whatever was bad about the day turned round with a superb team performance against a team with 100% record, 24 goals for and none against. This was Rubery at its fighting best!!! We totally dominated the first half with the wind behind us doing us no favours as ball after ball ran down the hill away from our strike force. Nevertheless we deservedly took the lead after a clear cut penalty was cooly dispatched by Dave Clarke against his old club. A freak goal saw Crusaders draw level when Jac saw his clearance hit a forward to leave Wayne no chance. A minute later (30 minutes) the bravery of Nathan Eaton saw a superbly timed header double the score. HT 2-1
Second half saw our boys take control yet again even though Crusaders now had their tails up with the wind behind them. Wayne made three superb saves to add to his reputation as one of the leagues best. Our lads battled superbly in this bruising battle and we still took the game to them and could have added to the score with Sunny chipping the keeper only to see his attempt go just wide. The new Crusaders keeper was superb and kept the score at bay with a string of saves, and only a strange decision by a linesman denied our boys when Ben took on the defence, hit the by-line, cut back and rolled a perfect ball for Sunny to crash home. Unbelievably this was given offside even though the ball was played back and not forwards. As the game came to it's close the tackles now flooded in but our determined and committed performance seen our lads grab the victory they so richly deserved. Fantastic team performances from all but special mention to Dave Clarke, Wayne Belcher and Adam Kerrigan for top class displays.

Our Under 15's cruised into the next round with a workmanlike performance against our friends at Austin. We took just 3 minutes to take the lead when Ben Smith opened his seasonal account. 8 minutes and a superb finish in the top left corner from Sunny increased our advantage. A minute later and Austin broke to score from a good move which left our defence on their heels. Nevertheless our front trio played havoc and a brace from Nathan Eaton gave us a half-time lead 4-1.
After the break and resting four of the lads for next week, all things went very quiet. Although never being under any pressure we found it hard to brake the brave opposition down. 65 minutes and Square rose to head in from a corner and the score-line was completed when Smurf rifled in after 76 minutes. Man-of-the-Match Ben Smith for his tireless work and attitude helped the lads to a fine professional victory.

Our lads finally proved what I have been telling them for a year now, that we are a Premiership team. At Bay Tree Farm we had the chance to prove my point by having the competition 4th favourites visit in the League Cup, and boy did we confirm my expectations with a top drawer performance. From the very first whistle we took the game to our top flight opponents and dominated the game with skill, passion and quality. In the 6th minute a great through ball from Sunny saw Nathan Eaton continue his goal-a-game average superbly. Within the next two minutes first Sunny then Nathan went close after some lightning quick interplay between each other. 13 minutes and we deservedly increased our advantage when Sunny finished clinically. The rest of the half was one way as our lads pummelled the opposition with a superb all round display. Half-Time 2-0
Second half brought enforced changes to the 'Colts' formation as they tried to break down our lads. The Colts put us under pressure but our defence stood proud. In the 57th minute we conceded a penalty after Josh was hit full on in the face on the line. This decision totally amazed the large following in the stands and the spot kick was put away effortlessly. We were then forced to change a few th
