Friendly RUBERY  1  CRUSADERS  7 (NATHAN EATON)

Rubery used this fixture to trial new players and positions so the result was inevitable. We fielded a strong side for 25 minutes and held the division one opponents to a single goal. After the first quarter we changed the teams completely round to try lads in different positions which led to this defeat.

Friendly RUBERY U14’S  8  RUBERY U13’s  4 (NATHAN EATON 3, JAMIE SUMMERS 3, DAVE CLARKE & JOSH FERGUSSON)

Our under 13 lads done us a great favour by giving us a run out after Hunt End pulled out at the last minute. This was an impressive performance against a team expected to take their league by storm.

Friendly RUBERY  9  ULVERLEY HAWKS  1 ( EATON 3, SMITH 3, SUMMERS 2 AND CLARKE)

Our lads put on a fantastic performance against a team that gained promotion with us last season. This turned out to be one-way traffic with our new front line destroying the opposition. Superb displays from Jamie Summers, Ben Smith and new boy Nathan Eaton were complimented by sound performances right through the team.

Friendly RUBERY  5  SPORTING RANGERS  0 (EATON 3, KERRIGAN & SMITH)

We saw the return of Steve Sale and the lads back to Bay Tree Farm. As usual Sporting made life difficult for us with their commitment, so it was good to finish with a well deserved victory. We wish Steve’s mob all the best for next season.

Friendly AUSTIN SPORTS  0  RUBERY  7 (SMITH 2 & EATON 5)

Against a strong opposition, the new front pairing of Nathan Eaton and Jamie Summers pulled Austin apart. A competitive Austin closed our lads down well but the movement up front was too hot to handle. Ben Smith impressed and Joe Watts took to his new position like a dream, but all the lads played well.

LEAGUE MATCH ONE...RUBERY 4 SMITHSWOOD 1 (NATHAN EATON 2 & JAMIE SUMMERS 2)

Rubery put on a superb team display to beat a side that was three divisions above us at the final whistle of last season. In a tight first half and after Eaton crashed a shot against the bar after 3 minutes, Smithswood took the lead through Ataria after 12 minutes. Rubery stormed back at the impressive opposition and Jamie Summers turned the first half round with firstly a 20 yard screamer into the top corner after 29 minutes, and a minute later struck coolly from 15 yards to make it 2-1 at half time. Our lads dominated the second half with all players performing with pride and passion. In the 43rd minute Nathan Eaton slid in for a Ben Smith cross to force across the line. Nathan then had two goal line clearances deny him and Joe Watts suffered yet another goal line block. In the 65th minute Eaton coolly rounded four defenders to crash home a left foot strike into the top corner to seal a superb win.
CWYFL MAN OF THE MATCH ..NATHAN EATON
MANAGERS MAN OF THE MATCH LUKE O’CONNOR

LEAGUE SHIELD. NORTHFIELD EAGLES 7 RUBERY JUNIORS 1 (NATHAN EATON)

This turned out to be a performance that rolled back to 3years ago. The lads had a very difficult week off the field, and with two team mates injured long term with fractures, it all took its toll. After dominating the early play and taking the lead, Northfield simply overwhelmed our lads with fast attacking football. Too many of our team had off days with injury and illness, but this has to be the worst display since 2001.Man of the Match went to Craig Veitch.

OPEN CUP.RUBERY 10 PHOENIX COLTS 2 (NATHAN EATON (4), JAMIE SUMMERS (3), BEN SMITH, DAVE CLARKE AND AN OWN GOAL)
The boys cruised through the first round with an impressive display against a plucky Colts side.

After going in at half-time leading 7-1, Rubery took their foot off the gas. The second half saw three additional goals to take us to double figures. Once again the front pairing of Jamie and Nathan proved too strong. Adam Kerrigan ran the park with his M-O-M performance. Well done lads.

LEAGUE MATCH TWO...RUBERY 7 PHOENIX RANGERS 1 (NATHAN EATON (4), JAMIE SUMMERS (3))
Rubery took control of this encounter straight from the kick-off. Nathan Eaton scored a hat-trick within 23 minutes and added a fourth on 35 minutes. HT 4-1. The second half belonged to Nathan’s partner Jamie Summers. He completed his personal treble within 21 minutes. These two lads have already forged an impressive pairing with power, clinical finishing and movement, but the whole team played well in support. Superb team performance

LEAGUE MATCH THREE...SMITHSWOOD 3 RUBERY 4 (NATHAN EATON, BEN SMITH AND JAMIE SUMMERS (2)
In a battle royal of a game, Rubery deserved this hard fought win..JUST..against an impressive Smithswood. Both teams gave their all in this all action game. Rubery took the lead when Nathan calmly finished after just 34 seconds. Jamie made it two after 27 minutes with a fine strike into the left had corner. Smithswood bounced back twice only to see Ben Smith hit an unstoppable shot to the top left corner.  HT Smithswood 2 Rubery 3.
Rubery came out blazing after the break and only poor finishing kept the score down. Ben Smith managed to hit the post from 4yards with the goal empty. Smithswood came back strongly and the midfield took control with some delightful play. Injuries played a part once again with firstly Busky (foot) and Tom (hamstring) having to be replaced. Nevertheless, our lads done us proud. Jamie Summers then broke through to chip the keeper to make it 4-2. With a minute left, Josh got caught in possession on the by-line only to watch 'The Wood' score a deserved third goal.

This game was a superb advert for youth soccer as both teams never gave an inch. Great for the onlookers, but heart stopping for the Managers

LEAGUE MATCH FOUR MAHAL WARRIORS 4 RUBERY JUNIORS 6

THE LEAGUE LEADERS HAD A MASSIVE SHOCK AS MAHAL SCORED TWICE EARLY TO LEAD 2-0 WITHIN 9 MINUTES. RUBERY SETTLED DOWN TO PLAY THEIR FOOTBALL AND TOOK OVER NETTING FOUR TIMES IN A 21 MINUTE SPELL. NATHAN EATON (10 & 14), JAMIE SUMMERS (30) AND A SUPERB RUN AND SHOT FROM BEN SMITH (31) TOOK THE HALF-TIME SCORELINE TO MAHAL 2 RUBERY 4.
SECOND HALF CONTINUED WITH RUBERY DOMINATING THE EARLY EXCHANGES. JAMIE SUMMERS (45) AND NATHAN EATON (56) EXTENDED THE RUBERY LEAD TO 6-2. MAYHEM THEN TOOK OVER WITH A MAHAL PLAYER PUNCHING A RUBERY LAD AND ASTONISHINGLY NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THE REFEREE. RUBERY LOST THEIR CONCENTRATION WITH ARGUMENTS GOING ON ALL OVER THE PITCH. MAHAL SCORED TWICE TO REDUCE THE ARREARS AND MAKE THE FINAL SCORE MAHAL WARRIORS 4 RUBERY 6
ONLY BAD FINISHING FROM THE NORMALLY LETHAL FRONT LINE PREVENTED A ROUT AS JOE WATTS, JAMIE SUMMERS, NATHAN EATON (COULD HAVE HAD SIX) AND NICK WILSON ALL WASTING CHANCES FOR HAT-TRICKS.

PHOENIX RANGERS 2 RUBERY JUNIORS 10 (CUP) (NATHAN EATON 3, JAMIE SUMMERS 3, BEN SMITH 2, DAVE CLARKE AND ADAM KERRIGAN)

GOALS A PLENTY AT PHOENIX AS RUBERY WENT ON THE RAMPAGE. RUBERY STARTED THE GAME BRIGHTLY AND TOOK THE LEAD AFTER 4 MINUTES WHEN JAMIE SUMMERS FOLLOWED UP TO SLIDE HOME. TWO MINUTES LATER DAVE CLARKE BROKE THROUGH TO CALMLY MAKE IT  2-0. JAMIE SUMMERS SCORED WITH A TOP CLASS FINISH CONTROLLING A HIGH BALL AND CRASHING THE BALL HOME. BEN SMITH GOT INTO THE ACT FROM A SUPERB NICK WILSON THROUGH BALL THAT SPLIT THE PHOENIX DEFENCE. PHOENIX HIT BACK THROUGH STANLEY BUT FURTHER GOALS FROM SUMMERS COMPLETING HIS HAT-TRICK, AND EATON GAVE THE HALF TIME SCORE,  PHOENIX 1 RUBERY 6
SECOND HALF AND STANLEY REDUCED THE ARREARS WITH A WELL TAKEN GOAL, ONLY TO SEE BEN SMITH STRIKE WITHIN A MINUTE. FURTHER STRIKES FROM ADAM KERRIGAN AND TWO FROM NATHAN EATON TO ACHIEVE HIS HAT-TRICK, GAVE RUBERY A WELL DESERVED VICTORY.
MANAGERS M-O-M...CRAIG VEITCH WAS SUPERLATIVE, AND NATHAN EATON CLAIMED THE CWYFL VOTE.
ALTHOUGH GAINING A CONVINCING VICTORY, THIS WAS NOT RUBERY'S BEST FOOTBALLING PERFORMANCE. EARLY STRIKES MADE THE LADS TOO RELAXED AT TIMES, AND A PLUCKY PHOENIX SQUAD NEVER GAVE UP. THEIR WORK RATE AND COMMITTMENT WAS FIRST CLASS AND WILL PLAY WORSE THAN THIS AND WIN.

RUBERY 7 STUDLEY JUNIORS 2

IN WHAT WAS THE WORST FIRST HALF DISPLAY IN TWO YEARS BY RUBERY, BUT OUR LADS TURNED IT ON IN THE SECOND HALF TO KILL OFF A SPIRITED STUDLEY. WE HAD THE CHANCES TO PUT THE GAME OUT OF REACH IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES BUT POOR FINISHING LET US DOWN AGAIN.STUDLEY FOUGHT HARD AND CLOSED DOWN THE RUBERY LADS WELL. 24 MINUTES IN AND STUDLEY TOOK THE LEAD WITH A WELL EXECUTED GOAL.NATHAN EATON EQUALISED 4 MINS LATER TO TAKE US TO THE BREAK LEVEL. HALF-TIME 1-1
SECOND HALF RUBERY TOOK TOTAL CONTROL AND UNLUCKILY WENT BEHIND AFTER 39 MINS. SHAKEN BY THIS, RUBERY TURNED ON THE QUALITY FOOTBALL THAT HAS TAKEN THEM TO THE TOP. GOALS FROM NATHAN EATON 46 & 69 MIN, ADAM KERRIGAN 52 & 55 MINS, DAVE CLARKE 48 MINS AND JOSH FERGUSSON 67 MINS COMPLETED A WELL DESERVED VICTORY AGAINST THE BRAVE STUDLEY LADS.
FINE PERFORMANCES FROM NATHAN EATON COMPLETING HIS HAT-TRICK, TOM LAWRY, CRAIG VEITCH, ADAM KERRIGAN, JOE WATTS, WERE COMPLIMENTED BY CWYFL MAN 0F THE MATCH DAVE CLARKE, AND MANAGERS MAN OF THE MATCH FOR THE FIRST EVER TIME, NICK WILSON FOR HIS SUPERB SECOND HALF MIDFIELD DISPLAY. ANTHONY JONES MAKING HIS FULL DEBUT PLAYED VERY WELL AND NEW SIGNING JAMIE HALES LOOKED COMFORTABLE AND FULL OF PROMISE. OVERALL QUITE A GOOD RESULT ON A BOG OF A PITCH. WELL DONE TO BOTH TEAMS

19/12/04…

19/12/04…  19/12/04 ....ULVERLEY HAWKS   10  RUBERY  0

Well the Christmas jinx hit us again for the third consecutive year. We went into this clash with just three fit players, not enough to hold a recently strengthened Ulverley outfit. Basically they played us off the park as our lads could not muster the strength to run and close them down. We lost Craig after 9 minutes as he just could not keep up or breathe. Nick had to come off after having his inhaler to no effect and Adam who had been in bed all week had to be taken off for his own good. All this and also having Joe (flu), Nathan (flu) Tom (injured) Jamie Hales (injured) Dave (flu) and Ben (flu) who also came out of bed to play, it gave us no chance at all to show the form that had taken us to the top of the league with a 100% record. I was proud of each and every one of the lads that tried so hard against all the odds

09/01/05…..RUBERY  0 ULVERLEY HAWKS 0

After the illnesses of the previous encounter, Rubery bounced back with an impressive performance against the strongest opposition in the league. No goals but a fine advert for football. Fine performances all round but special mention for Nick Wilson and Joe Watts (MOM) for stopping a premier league striker in his stride. Ben Smith (CWYFL), Jamie Summers, Adam Kerrigan and Nathan Eaton. We should have wrapped this up in the first half, but a fine display from Ulverley’s defence held us at bay. At least we got our reputation back after the problems of the past few weeks

23/01/05…

3/01/05….   REDDITCH UTD   3  RUBERY  0

Strange result really!! We dominated the first half with some fine football only to go into the break 2-0 down. Redditch only had four shots in the game and ran out easy winners after too many lads had an off day. Nathan Eaton took both awards for a totally committed performance. Nick Wilson had a superb first half producing the only positive football seen from the midfield. Other displays to note were Josh, Joe, Ben and Tom in defence, Adam in the middle. This was yet another display where the midfield let the rest of the lads down badly. Too many times they were caught up-field when play had switched against us, leaving the back totally exposed. The opposition can not live with us for ability but still managed to bring us down to there level. Overall a very disappointing result against a team that is very beatable when all our boys perform. Sadly far too many players failed to turn up Sunday

30/01/05….Rubery   9   Mahal Warriors  1

With the luxury of being able to field a fully fit full strength team for the first time in two months, we dominated this game from the start. With going ahead in the first minute with a Ben Smith strike helped the lads settle into their stride quickly. Nathan scored the first of his first half five goals in the 4th minute and added to tally in the 30th, 33rd, 34th and 35th minutes to seal a superb individual performance. Half-time 6-0.

Second half saw an onslaught on the Mahal goalkeeper. This lad produced a fantastic performance to keep the score down. Mahal were awarded a penalty to reduce the areas when Adam received an unlucky bounce to handle. Luke dived full length to unluckily fingertip the ball inside the post. Mahal played well and never gave in but the pressure told when in the 67th minute Ben Smith scored his second. Two minutes later Dave Clarke struck and Jamie Hales completed the scoring in the final minute with his first goal for the club. This was a good all round performance in general considering the problems we have suffered over last 8 weeks.    CWYFL man-of-the-match Nathan Eaton and Managers man-of-the-match Ben Smith stood out, but other notable displays came from Adam, Nick, Josh and Joe

27/02/05….Hunters Moon Colts   4   Rubery   3

Well folks another brainstorm hit our lads. When will they ever learn that the game is not over until the final whistle blows? We started this game with some of the most fluent football seen all season. We went 2-0 ahead within 8 minutes through great finishing from Ben Smith and Nathan Eaton, and we totally dominated the opposition. What happens next? We think the game is won. Time and time again we let Hunters come at us like a pack of wolves. The arrears were reduced when Luke saved at full stretch only for the rebound to fall at the feet of a Colts player to net. Hunters took control of the game but our defence held strong. Then in a freak incident, the ball was cleared successfully only to rebound off the referee over the defence to let Colts equalise. We then scored again within a minute with a fine finish from Nathan Eaton, then Colts came back to square the scoring before the break.

You would have thought we had learnt by this but oh no!! Time after time we left the defence with an impossible task as wave after wave came at them. After several chances Hunters deservedly took the lead which proved to match winner. Our lads never gave up and striking the woodwork four times did not help our cause. The final ten minutes saw Rubery wake up and pin the Colts back. Only desperate defending and brave goalkeeping kept us at bay.

Fine performances from Nathan (CWYFL) and joint Managers Man-of-the-Match winners Ben Smith & Adam Kerrigan, Josh Fergusson, Tom Lawry, Luke O’Connor and Dave Clarke. The battle now begins as we plunge out of the automatic promotion places for the first time this season. Time for the lads to face the harsh reality of youth football at this level and never take anything for granted.

13/03/05….Studley Juniors     0    Rubery     7

Our lads roared back to second spot with a fine attacking performance on the worst pitch I have seen for many a year. From first whistle to the last, we totally dominated this game with Muzza returning for the injured Luke in goal and never touched the ball once in the game. Our lads took the lead when Jamie Summers coolly struck in the 14th minute. The impressive Nathan Eaton scored twice in the first half (22 & 24 mins) to take the score at the break to 3-0.

Second half and within 2mins we extended the lead when Ben Smith struck home. Nathan completed a second half hat-trick to take his personal tally to five by scoring in the 40th  ,46th and 60th minutes. Only the pitch and a superb Studley keeper kept the score below twenty let alone double figures. Superb displays from Josh, Craig, Adam and Man-of-the-Match for only the second time in his Rubery career Nick Wilson for his supreme midfield performance, were complimented by the movement of Sunny and fine finishing from CWYFL winner Nathan Eaton

20/03/05…..Rubery  2  Northfield Eagles  1

Our boys took over as league leaders with this superb team performance against our promotion rivals. From the first whistle we took the game to our opponents playing some delightful football. After just 3 minutes Nathan hit the bar, a minute later a fine shot from Nick went inches over, Adam blasted inches over the bar in the 10th minute and 20 minutes Nathan once again went close. We totally dominated the first half but just could not find the net. Northfields only chance came and Jamie Summers cleared off the line brilliantly.

Second half saw our lads continue the pressure. Wave after wave of attacks finally brought the breakthrough. We were awarded a free kick (50 minutes) outside the box (even though he handled 2 yards inside it) and Jamie Summers struck for Nathan to flick home his 50th goal of the season. We continued to play all the football but on a rare Northfield break and from a corner a fine shot saw Josh handle for a penalty which was dispatched clinically. Rubery still continued to play quality football and a fine run from Jamie Summers (60mins) saw his fine cross beat the keeper even before Nathan’s follow up. Fine performances from Luke O’Connor (CWYFL) and Josh Fergusson (MOM) were complimented by Nathan’s all action display, Jamie Summers superb hard working performance, Jordan making his full first team debut was solid, but to be honest every player should take a great deal of pride from this totally professional display. WELL DONE LADS

10/04/05 Northfield Eagles   1   Rubery Juniors   2

What a battle this turned out to be as Northfield gave their all to keep in the title race. On a pitch which was a disgrace to the local grounds man, both teams tried their best to play football. This game was badly wind affected.  Try as they did to peg us back our defence stood strong and proud. Chances went from both teams to the interval, 0-0.

Second half saw our lads begin to take control and Ben Smith bravely headed into the bottom corner. Northfield now fighting for their season still fought back and equalised with a well taken finish. After switching the impressive Jamie Summers up front a knock down saw hard working Jamie Hales strike into the top corner off the post. Even though our lads were in charge we still needed a superb save from Muzza (cwyfl) to secure a fine win. All the back four we superb, Adam, Ben and  Man-of-the-Match Dave Clarke, alongside Jamie Summers fine work rate and Nick battling against the big midfield were totally committed but  yet again it was a complete team performance. WELL DONE !!

17/04/05 Rubery   2    Hunters Moon Colts  3

What can I say, we blew it.  After a season of hard work and with just one game left, we find ourselves out of the automatic promotion places for the first time all season. This turned out to be a titanic battle between two fine sides but Hunters Moon wanted it more than a few of our lads.  Most of the boy’s gave their all but some could not handle the pressure of such a big encounter. We did not deserve to lose but sure is we did not deserve a win either. Superb performances from Ben Smith (MOM), Josh (CWYFL), Nathan and Sunny up front stood out  and Dave Clarke back to his best struck both goals, Sunny crashed a free kick against the bar and made the keepers hand sting with a great 2nd half save. We could have won if we had been given a penalty from either of the hand balls in the area but it was not to be. Now we must win our last game to have any chance of promotion but it is now in the lap of the gods

Rubery   3    Redditch United   3

This great game was played at a frantic pace throughout by both sides. Redditch needing to win to clinch the Championship, came up against a tough Rubery side still hoping for promotion.  Rubery completely dominated the first 15minutes but Redditch fought their way back into the game. Completely against the run of play Redditch took the lead with an unstoppable 30 yard shot into the top corner. Rubery continued to play quality football and deservedly equalised on 34 minutes when Ben Smith completed a fine run to score. Half-time 1-1

Second half saw our lads completely take over and saw Nathan Eaton strike to take a 2-1 advantage. Redditch now on the ropes never gave up and were forced to rely on hitting us on the break.  Unbelievably our lads were shocked when two breaks led to Redditch taking the lead.  Shell-shocked,  Rubery’s character now shone through and we battered the strongest defence in the league time and time again in search of the equaliser. With 3 minutes on the clock Jamie Summers broke free on the left only to be brought down 4 yards inside the box.  Nick Wilson showed tremendous bottle by coolly beating the six foot keepers fingertips with a perfectly taken spot-kick in the bottom left-hand corner.  Performances to note were Man-of-the-Match Josh Fergusson, CWYFL

Adam Kerrigan, Luke O’Connor, James Busk, Dave Clarke Ben Smith and Nick Wilson’s all action Midfield performances and a superb display from Nathan Eaton up front.
